Written in 1881 for his stepson, Robert Louis Stevenson's "Treasure Island" is an exciting tale of pirates, mutiny, and hidden treasure. The story captures the thrill of a sea voyage and a treasure hunt through the eyes of its teenage protagonist, Jim Hawkins. Crossing the Atlantic in their search, Jim and the ship's crew brave the elements and a mutinous charge led by the ruthless pirate Long John Silver. It set the standards for swashbucklers and pirate stories for decades to come, continuing to influence both fiction and popular culture. Long John Silver even has his own chain of seafood restaurants and the Admiral Benbow Inn was transformed into a series of motels. Stevenson's other classics include "Kidnapped" and "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde."
