Two pair of wings were a popular pattern in the Persian art during the period of Sasanian Empire. It could be found in combination with tree motifs on some building components of that era. Many believe that the wings are a symbol of eagles. Such a wing pattern was introduced to China via the Silk Road around the Northern Dynasties period (386-581 AD) and then appeared on warp-faced silk fabrics made by the Chinese, many of which were unearthed in Xinjiang.
