Jin-silk with Woven Characters Meaning Another Lifetime

China National Silk Museum

China National Silk Museum
Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China

On this piece of warp-faced tabby, dark green warp threads form foundation while orange warp yarns indicate patterns. Saw-toothed waves serve as framework, adorned with woven characters, only one of which remains clear, namely “锦” (Jin, means jin-silk). Based on similar fabrics unearthed in Xinjiang, the original inscription should be “续世锦” (Xu Shi Jin, means jin-silk for another lifetime).
