China National Silk Museum

China National Silk Museum
Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China

This piece with two patches of different jin-silk sewn together might belong to a sleeve. One of the two patches is adorned with woven characters “岁大孰常葆子孙息兄弟茂盛” (Sui Da Shu Chang Bao Zi Sun Xi Xiong Di Mao Sheng, meaning good harvest next year for well-being of the offspring and thriving of brothers), while the more complete inscription should be “恩泽下岁大孰常葆子孙息兄弟茂盛无极” (En Ze Sui Da Shu Chang Bao Zi Sun Xi Xiong Di Mao Sheng, meaning bless for good harvest next year for the well-being of the offspring and thriving of brothers), based on similar jin-silk pieces unearthed in Niya, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. The other patch is embellished with jade-disc pattern.
