1932

National Museum of Australia

National Museum of Australia
Canberra, Australia

This number plate was fixed to the car driven by Joan Richmond and Bertie Beatson in the 1932 Monte Carlo Rally. Participants were able to choose from a number of starting locations which presented drivers with different challenges.

Richmond and Beatson started in Palermo, Sicily and completed the rally within the allotted time, covering 1100 miles (1770 km) in 52 hours.

They, and two other cars driven by Australians, had already travelled overland from Australia, taking four months to reach the starting line, before the race began.
