With industry attracting him more than a military career, Jobin became an engineer in a mechanical company. In 1892, on the advice of Cornu, who had been his physics teacher at the École Polytechnique, he bought Maison Laurent, which he ran for more than forty years. In the manufacture of the usual instruments for scientific and industrial laboratories, Jobin knew how to combine the practical experience he had acquired with the creative spirit of eminent physicists. He is an almost sole supplier of scientists such as Macé de Lépinay, Pérot, Fabry, ... In 1914 Jobin was mobilized, then placed at the disposal of the Geographical Service of the Army, to contribute to the development of the manufacture of instruments for military optics. In 1919, he became president of the Employers' Union of Optics and Precision Mechanics and in 1921 succeeded Jules Carpentier at the Bureau des longitudes. He participated in the creation of the Optics Institute (Institut d'optique), founded in 1921 by M. de Gramont, Ch. Fabry and M. Chrétien. In 1923, his company took the name of Jobin Yvon, having entrusted the management of the company to his son-in-law Gustave Yvon. He died in 1945, the same year as Charles Fabry
