The British Library

The British Library
London, United Kingdom

Written by the astronomer Johannes Kepler, the Rudolphine Tables helped its readers to locate the planets in relation to the stars. It contains the position of 1005 stars and is the most accurate catalogue of the pre-telescope era. The elaborate frontispiece depicts Kepler surrounded by great astronomers from history, including Ptolemy and Copernicus. Kepler’s own mother was accused of being a witch, but she was released from prison following her son’s intervention. Shown here: frontispiece and title-page
