This collection of paintings from Kenya’s colonial past was purchased at an auction after the death of John Boyes, one of the more coiourful figures from Kenya’s colonial period Boyes was the first English trader to be established in the area that become Nairobi at the end of last century known as ”King of Wakikuyu”. Boyes was a famous early game hunter. He traded a Kikuyu chief for Mt .Kenya and ‘owned’ the mountain for several years. Most of the paintings were painted during the first two decades of this century.
