John Steuart Curry modeled his image of John Brown after Michelangelo’s "Moses on the Tomb of Pope Julius II". This lithograph was a figure study for a mural that Curry was commissioned to do for the Kansas state capitol building in Topeka, and was published by the Associated American Artists in an edition of 250.
