John Deleval

A portrait of John Hussey Delaval attributed to artist Benjamin Wilson. The painting dates from around 1760, so it shows John shortly after he inherited Doddington Hall, aged about thirty-two. This portrait, and a companion painting of John's first wife Susannah, now hang in Doddington Hall's Long Gallery. It is possible that these new portraits were painted for display in the newly redecorated interiors that John commissioned for the Hall between 1759 and 1762.
