This drawing of Barthe's , a contemporary of Harlem Renaissance literary figure Bruce Nugent, shows the draftsmanship skills of Richmond Barthé . Created in 1929 it is one of his earliest work. Though Barthé was a talented painter, he was almost exclusively sought after for his sculptural images. This 1929, image was done early in Barthé's career, prior to when the artist's commercial success and livelihood was largely dependent upon proceeds from the sales of his sculptural images.
