Provenance: This painting was among 17 paintings of distinguished Americans, which Lambdin placed on loan to The Union League of Philadelphia, a patriotic society founded in 1862 to support Abraham Lincoln and the Union during the American Civil War, in 1867. The Union League purchased the entire group in 1870.
