St. John the Baptist holds and points to a disk with the Lamb of God, a visual reference to John 1:29, where John sees Jesus and exclaims, "Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world." He is draped in camel skin (cf. Matthew 3:4); the head and hooves of a camel hang at the bottom of his mantle. This statue may have been made for a chapel dedicated to John the Baptist.
