The Association of Southern Women for the Prevention of Lynching (ASWPL) was founded in 1930 by Jessie Daniel Ames of Atlanta, Georgia. She stands second from the end on the front row, next to Mary McCleod Bethune. The group photograph was taken in front of "Lifting the Veil of Ignorance" statue at Tuskegee Institute (now University) which shows Booker T. Washington lifting the veil from a former slave.
