Portrait of the Portuguese pianist and composer, José Viana da Mota (1868-1948) painted by Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro, one of the most important Portuguese painters of the 19th century. Viana da Mota studied in Berlin and in Weimar with Franz Liszt. Successfully toured all over Europe and the Americas. Directed the Geneva and Lisbon Conservatories.
