Louis is depicted as a child riding a hobby horse, with Marie-Antoinette as the ‘power behind the throne’ – its tail is made of ostrich (autruche/Autriche) feathers. The stag’s head (an attribute of the cuckold), alludes to the Queen’s alleged affairs.
