"Hong Kong Kaleidoscope" series are also products of Luis Chan's imagination. He saw Hong Kong’s colorful history and sometimes excessive present in 100 years through the lens of his own kaleidoscope. Crossing the boundaries of medium, he brought forth images characterized by their absurdity and humor to reflect on the remarkably diverse phenomena one might associate with Hong Kong in the second half of the twentieth century, and thus created his most obscure and charming works.

In his later years Luis Chan continuously expanded his field of vision and sought new horizons for his art. The last decade of his career saw the creation of abstract paintings in acrylic. He called them "abstract illusionism". This group of paintings, with bright color and fluent lines, seems to have abandoned the concrete images of his kaleidoscopic illusions and replaces them with boldly abstract forms. This formed a strong contrast with his previous fantastic figurative paintings. This possibly reflects his psychological state at the time.
