Joyce Bacchus MBE (1942-2019) was a former Mayor of Brent, London, who died in May 2019. She moved from Guyana to London, taking up work in modelling and nursing before becoming a civil servant and then a local councillor. She was elected as Brent’s mayor in 2001.
She was made an MBE in 2000 for services to the community. She was one of the UK's first black female magistrates and an early co-organiser the Notting Hill Carnival.
