João Domingos Bomtempo (1775-1842) was a Portuguese pianist and composer, son of an Italian oboist hired by the Real Câmara de Lisboa. Bomtempo excelled as a virtuoso pianist and composer in Paris and London. Following the steps of the classical period masters, he introduced in Portugal forms such as the sonata, the concerto and the symphony. He was also a music teacher of Queen D. Maria II and directed the Conservatório Nacional from its foundation, in 1835, until he's passed away.
