Museo Nacional de Arte Romano
Mérida, Spain

This decoration served to praise and exalt the figure of the emperor. Made from a large smooth flat stone slab with fragmented corners, it formed part of the sculptural decoration of what was known as the 'Forum portico' or 'Marble forum', beside the site of the Temple of Diana in the centre of Mérida. It is similar to the one in Augustus’ forum in Rome
