Once again, kabuki actor Jitsukawa Enzaburō portrays the irresistible Mitsuuji in a scene inspired by the “Asagao” chapter in the Murasaki version of The Rustic Genji. Dressed in purple, the gallant gazes at Lady Kikuzaki, who wears pale pink. Mitsuuji hides behind a screen decorated with a typical autumnal scene of plants under the full moon. Kikuzaki, on the floor, appears reading a scroll resting on a small desk. The role of Lady Kikuzaki is played by actor Ichikawa Kōdanji. The expressive faces faithfully depict each actor's features, making them easily recognizable, although it is customary to include their names and the roles they play in the print itself, next to their figures, in a small red rectangle.
