The Somaskanda Panel is one of the unique sculptures of the Pallava period. The Pallavas introduced the Somaskanda Panel and almost all of the Pallava temples have it carved on the walls of the garbagriha, behind the main deity. The sculpture portrays Lord Shiva (Soma) along with his consort Parvati (Uma) and their son Karthikeya (Skanda) as a baby, who sits on the lap of mother Parvati or stands in between the couple.
