About the craft: The art of Chau mask making started in Charida village 150 years back. At present, masks for Chau dance still constitute the main market; the mask makers also make smaller masks for home décor and souvenirs. Chau is an acrobatic dance of eastern India in which the dancers wear these large stylised masks.
