A daring experimenter heralded as the Father of Indian Cinema, Dhundiraj Govind Phalke introduced the genre of the mythological to Indian Cinema. The climax scene, when child Krishna vanquishes the venomous serpent KALIYA, was accompanied by the live chorus of the patriotic song Vande Mataram. A nationalist to the core, Dadasaheb Phalke contributed to the patriotic cause emerging at the time. He realized that apart from providing entertainment to mass audiences, cinema is also a powerful tool to motivate, inform and educate people.
