Simon Go graduated from Swire School of Design of Hong Kong Polytechnic in 1989. He has been a photojournalist for more than ten years and he has a keen concern for poverty that exists in our society, and seeks to explore social issues through his lens. Facing the urban redevelopment, the few remaining old shops in old districts cannot escape from demolition. The family shop where the owners live at the back, the back alley shop, the brothers shop, the couple-run shop and the ancestral domestic shop of three generations, will all vanish one be one. Go Ming-ching preserves old neighbourhood shops through images that capture not only the décor and interior layout of the shops, but also the history, culture, humanism and spirit of their surrounding community. ‘Kang Ming Framing Service’ presents the rise and fall of old shops.
