Kapal Bhati, ‘Kapal’ is the entire face and especially the forehead. ‘Bhati’ literally means shining. Its practice brings a glow to the face. This practice is excellent prior to meditation, as it clears the mind and creates attentiveness.
-Stand or sit in any meditative posture, preferably Sukhasana.
-Inhale and exhale sharply, forcefully and quickly without contorting the facial muscles. The muscles of the throat will automatically be used. Avoid flaring the nostrils and ensure there is minimal movement in the body.
The friction created by the sharp breaths will create moderate sounds. Remember they are short, sharp and forceful breaths equal in inhalation as well as exhalation.

-Practise ten such breaths making it one round. You can practise 3 to 5 rounds.

The benefits include blood circulation and oxygenation of the entire face is improved, which in turn improves the texture and gives glowing skin. It rejuvenates tired cells and nerves, keeping the face young, shining and wrinkle-free. This breathing exercise is mainly for cleansing the facial sinuses. Therapeutic benefits include, blood circulation and heart rate, a reduction the frequency of sinusitis and migraine attack and cleanses the eye duct, improving vision.
