The Kaplan hydraulic reaction turbine is used for the production of electricity taking advantage of watercourses or reservoirs characterized by small differences in height (up to ca. 10 meters) but with large flow rates. This type of turbine was developed by the Austrian engineer Viktor Kaplan in 1913.
