A Baroque church prized as an architectural gem. It was built by Charles VI, the influential father of Maria Theresa, in 1713 as a hope to end the Black Plague in Vienna. It was named after St. Charles Borromeo, a healer of plague sufferers who lived during the 16th century.

- 作品解説 / Object Note (Japanese): バロック建築の珠玉と賞される教会。1713年にペストがウィーンで大流行した際に、その終息を願い、時の権力者であったマリア・テレジアの父カール6世が建築を命じました。ペストの守護聖人カール・ボロメウスに奉献する教会で、この守護聖人の名に因んでカールス教会という名前がつけられました。
