Kartik

Kartik is the son of Durga.

In the Purulia Chhau performance, a popular theme is victory of good over evil, shown with the slaying of Mahisasura (the buffalo demon) by Durga, who is surrounded by her children, including Ganesha and Kartik.

Purulia Chhau is a folk dance-theatre tradition found in West Bengal and Jharkhand in eastern India. The folk legends of these areas are depicted in the performance where these masks personify the different characters.
