Tsukibori is a method whereby the craftsperson cuts the six layers of the stencil paper, held on all four sides by a paper string, by drawing the tip of the stenciling knife away from themselves. It is particularly useful for figurative patterns. The craftsperson sharpens the various knives as they cut.
