Koshirae means exterior equipmenrs of a sword,largely comprised of three parts,saya,tuba and tsuka. This koshirae with a vivid contrast of blue lacquered saya and gold arareji textile used to belong to a master sword called "Ataki-giri" owned by Josui Kuroda,founder of the Fukuoka Clan. It is known as the work of Myoju Umetada,a master of the Momoyama period,from the signature "Kohata Myoju"inscribed in the habaki part.
