Kava

Kava is a sprawling shrub that can exceed ten feet in height. It has broadly heart-shaped ribbed leaves and numerous small flowers. The rhizome is large and whitish gray, with many roots branching from it. In the Pacific Islands, where this plant grows, a beverage is made from the roots of the plant that is consumed during ceremonies.
