The "salta" harpoon was used to hunt sea lions ("Otaria flavescens" and "Arctophoca australis"). To hunt these animals they also used nets and clubs. The sea lions formed the basis of the Kawésqar diet. The skins of these animals were used on the roofs of their homes and for clothing.
