The painting depicts one of the most distinctive views in Kazimierz Dolny. There is a well in the foreground, with the parish church in the background. The whiteness of the snow covering the market and roofs of the houses gives this work a nearly monochromatic look. Kononowicz knew how to capture the colour nuances of snow by juxtaposing them against patches of red. The composition as a whole is colourfully harmonised. Colour resolutions were the very essence of this artist’s paintings. Most of his works portrayed views of the town he was associated with. At first, he would come here for outdoor painting sessions. He settled here permanently in the 1920s. The painting entitled “Kazimierz zimą” was created in the last year of the artist’s life. It is a view from the direction of the Gdańsk Tenement, where his two-room apartment was located. Signed in the bottom right-hand corner: J. Karmański 1958
