Kee Vos and her son Jan c. 1881

This is a photo of Kee Vos-Stricker and her son Jan. Vincent van Gogh met his cousin Kee while visiting his parents in the Dutch village of Etten in 1881. Kee was staying there after the recent death of her husband. Vincent’s feelings for her ran away with him. However, Kee did not see her cousin as husband material, answering “No, nay, never” to his repeated proposals.
