The mother of Ned Kelly, Ellen Quinn, was born in Ireland in 1832. She migrated to Australia with her parents and married ex-convict John 'Red' Kelly in 1851. They had eight children. John Kelly died in 1866 and Ellen married again in 1874 having three children with her second husband George King. After George King's disappearance Ellen resumed the name of Kelly and their three children grew up as Kelly.
