In the moat of the Hammaburg I archaeologists found numerous pottery shards, which are typical for the period around 800. That means the backfilling of the moat can be dated from the end of the 8th century to the beginning of the 9th century. Saxon pottery is burned with only low temperatures and is always handmade and not decorated. The pot from Ketzendorf (2) gives an idea of its original appearance.
