This keris, as evidenced by the special form of it's sheath, is called the ladrangan and was used for ceremonial purposes only. Keris and sheaths made of gold were the exclusive property of members of the nobility. The hilt of this keris is shaped to resemble a Hindu figure. It would only have been displayed to the public during formal ceremonies at the royal court and is an heirloom, belonging to the Gowa Kingdom. It was confiscated during the Dutch military expedition of 1906.
