Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek
Copenhagen V, Denmark

This statue head shows a king, probably Amenophis II (c. 1439-1413 BC). The cobra diadem, the striped head cloth and the broad chin beard are all part of the royal regalia. The fresh, young, almost childlike features are typical of royal portraits during the reign of Thutmosis III and his son Amenophis II. This is, however, hardly an example of a true portrait, rather an idealised face which puts the king on an equal footing with a god.
