This 17th century painting by Italian artist Domenichino, retained the attention of Louis XIV who had it installed in his Grand Apartment, then in his Interior Apartment. It was not only the quality of the painting that pleased the Sun King, it was also the subject. Undoubtedly, he must have seen himself in the great biblical figure of King David.
