King Fernando Saxe Coburg Gota (1816-1856), was second husband of Queen Maria II. He was addressed as king at the birth of his firts-son, the King Pedro V. He was a counsellor of the Queen and protector of the arts. The painter, Manuel Maria Bordalo Pinheiro was one of the most important artists of the period.
