At least since the 1840’s King Gustav’s snuff box has been in the collection at Skokloster. But Gustav I of Sweden (1497-1560) most likely never owned a snuff box. Tobacco was not introduced in Sweden until around 1600, some decades after the King’s death, and then as medicinal treatment. The style of the box rather suggests a late 17th Century production.
