Joan says: "Kirsty Swords is a community Nurse and like other community NHS workers continued her hands-on close work with patients in their own homes whether or not those patients tested positive for Covid-19 and despite having decidedly less than perfect PPE. Their courage and dedication moved me and I felt honoured to paint this and other NHS portraits as gifts to thank at least a few of the frontline health workers. The delight Kirsty (who was referred to me via another NHS worker) expressed at having her portrait painted overcame any reservations I might have had about working solely from photos."
Kirsty says: "I never expected I would have a portrait of myself. I am stunned and emotional after seeing the final piece. I really will treasure this."
