In this lively watercolor study of Schiele's favourite model in this period, Wally Neuzil, he jxtaposed the reddish flesh tone to the gray-black of her dress. The folds of the fabric are wonderfully rendered, so that it appears as light is falling on them from above. Oddly enough, this study of a female model clearly served Schiele as a pattern for the figure of the cardinal in his painting Cardinal and Nun, even though the head here is turned and resting on the right shoulder.
