Close-up fly-by of lava on side of Koko Head crater, a *tuff* cinder cone, created by the last of the active volcanic explosions that occurred on Oahu beginning approx. 100,000 years ago. The most recent dating of lava from Koko Head revealed an eruption of only 7,000 years ago. The vegetated ridge in the background is part of the Koolau volcano which which rose from the sea approx. 2.7 million years ago, forming the eastern side of the island of Oahu and now has an elevation of 2000ft.
