Komodo Dragon

With a maximum length of three meters and a weight of 135 kilograms, the Komodo Dragon is the largest living reptile today. The species is only found on the Indonesian islands of Komodo, Rintja and Padar as well as on the west coast of Flores. The Komodo Dragon lives in semi-arid forested areas, preferably close to water. Although the species is strictly protected, the approximately 1,000 animals surviving today appear to be threatened due to the heavy hunting pressure on their main prey animals, deer and wild boar.
