“Konbu (kelp)” is a play on words for “yorokobu (rejoice)” and is for the fortune of the family and its prosperity, and is thus used in the decoration of Kagami-mochi (mirror mochi). Simmered kelp knot and kelp rolls are used quite often as Osechi dishes.
