Sheep breeding is one of our most important animal husbandry activities since time immemorial. Also, mutton is an essential ingredient in our dishes. We have books and literature published in the early period that deal with the issue of sheep breeding academically as well. Prof. Dr. Kadri Bilgemre was an authority on the books on animal breeding from the 1920s to the 1950s. He has separate books on cattle breeding, chicken breeding and sheep breeding. He also has books on zootechnology, domestic animals and agriculture. The book Koyun Yetiştirmek (“Sheep Breeding”) was first published in 1924 as a 190-page book, then in 1950 the volumes were translated into Turkish. The book written by Kadri Bilgemre, is a very detailed and timeless archival book on sheep breeding, as it tells about our sheep locally and through our geography.
