The design on the knife handle is created with hairline engravings on a smooth silver surface. The heart-like openwork design is a traditional Japanese motif symbolizing a boar’s eye. The backside of the handle has a file mark pattern called ‘neko-kaki yasuri’ (cat scratch file mark).
