This type of weapon had both a practical purpose and symbolic value and was associated with the warrior elite. It was carried along with other weapons inside the broad zande shield and was used before hand to hand combat. A sign of masculinity, warriors also used kpinga knives as objects of exchange and as a marriage tribute to the family of the spouse-to-be.
